Bloom with grace

Hello scrappy friends!

It's me, Leslie on the blog today!
I was so excited when I saw this month's sketch and that it had a sunburst on the background! I love making sunburst layouts.
However, with this layout I wanted to go a bit abstract, and less literal.

So I got out some of my Mister Huey's Audrey, Sprinkler's Miss Mary Mack and some Heidi Swapp Gold Color shine because, why not!? A lot of splattering, splotching and smudging ensued, and I came up with my interpretation of a sunburst.

I chose to use the Crate Paper Flourish collection, because it is GORGEOUS!
I fussy cut the butterflies from one of the 6x6 paper pad pattern papers, and I went through the copious amounts of die cuts and embellishments to frame my photo. Lastly I framed the layout with a frame cut out of one of the 12x12 pattern papers.

Head on over to my YouTube channel, Leslie Berner for the process video.

Go and have fun with this sketch! There are endless summer layouts to be made with it's inspiration!

Astronaut Andre

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you a layout I made for a Paper Issues challenge called Scraplift Sunday. For those of you who are not familiar with Paper Issues, it is an online scrapbook shop that sell all the latest and greatest scrapbook goodies. They also have a Facebook page called Paper Issues Friends and Family, so go on over and have a look. There are daily challenges and updates and all sorts of fun to be had on the Facebook page.

So, today I sharing my take on a layout for Scraplift Sunday. I used the My Mind's Eye, Blastoff collection and I did some mixed media on my background. I did the packaging technique with some H2O's Twinklings, a colour called Majestic. And that blue is truly majestic, it is so vibrant and rich and has such a subtle shimmer to them.

The circles are 3 inch circles that I machine stitched with plan white thread. You will see that in some areas the thread looks all pulled and tattered, but I really like that effect, it adds so much texture. On the left I added the photo I was going to use and I cut it into a circle to fit nicely on top of that one blue circle, framing the photo perfectly. I used a bunch of the Mixed bag items and some of the Chipboard elements from the collection. This collection is so fabulous for boys! The colours are bright, rich and fun! I used a second photo and fussy cut around the cake, so that the cake looks like an embellishment. I really like the effect that it creates. I used the chipboard word 'Astronaut' for a part of my title and used some really old Thickers called 'Cinnamon' for the rest of my title.

If you want to have a look at the original layout made by the very talented Rachel Tallman, please head on over to the Paper Issues blog, I have a link for you to the right of my page!

Hope you enjoyed this one and found inspiration!

Family

This is the beautiful layout from Courtney Sawyer for SLS week 4!

Hi friends! I'm on the blog today, sharing my version of the Scraplift Sunday week 4 challenge.
I loved everything about making this page. I used the Pebbles, Heart of Home collection. I did a lot of fussy cutting for this layout. I absolutely love fussy cutting. I was too lazy to get my silhouette out so I just wrote the word family on some white cardstock, cut it out and backed it with a selection of some of the pattern papers. I also fussy cut the branches with the bird nests out of one of the pattern papers. The gold accents are from the rub on sheets, I have to say, I have never used rub on's on a layout before, and I just loved them! They went on so smoothly, and the warm glow the gold gives to the layout is heartwarming. I also used some of the stickers from the American Crafts sticker book from Jen Hadfield.

Hope you are inspired by the layout for SLS week 4, it is beautiful!!

Wild & free

Hi friends! Today I would like to share this layout I made for the Swanky Swatches Challenge over on the Paper Issues Facebook Page. I used the beautiful 'Lovely Day' collection from Shimelle.

Here is the Swatch,

Don't you just love the rich warm colours combined with the colder neutral grays?
I have to admit, this was truly a challenge for me. I usually stick to many different colours, and I haven't really scrapped with so much red before. But here it is. I did it!

I worked on this for almost a whole day. I first started with a vertical layout, I didn't like it, so I tried a diagonal layout, I didn't like that either. So I walked away and made myself a lovely cup of coffee and took a wee break. When I finally got the courage to try again, I looked at all the papers again to get some inspiration. And I got stuck on the page with all the hot air balloons.

So I decided that I will paper piece a hot air balloon in the swatch colours.
And this is the result. I also fussy cut the flowers from one of the other pages in the collection as well as the paper with all the phrases and words. Hope you get some inspiration from this!!

Remember, all the products I used in this layout is available in the Paper Issues online shop, use the coupon code, 'Leslie' for a 20 % discount.
Have a fab weekend!

Love our Secret Garden

Hi everyone! Today I am sharing with you this layout I made using a very old picture of me and my sister. I must have been around a year old, and my sister must have been about 4. As you can see, we are picking blossoms off a bush of some sorts. So, I thought it appropriate to use the Kaisercraft collection called Secret Garden. It is one of their older collections, and I don't think its even available in the shops or on line anymore. I have it in my stash and now I got some use out of it! It is such a beautiful, soft, feminine collection. The pinks and the greens are so subtle with the blues offer an accented contrast to the rest of the colours. I just love making diagonal layouts, it is so easy to embellish and everything always seem to flow so well together. As you can see I did what I do on most layouts, I fussy cut a lot of the flowers on one of the 12x12 sheets in the collection pack. If you don't know me by now, I just LOVE fussy cutting! I can spent hours fussy cutting, basically until my hand cramps up! There is not much technical to say about this layout. I placed my photo on the bottom half of the diagonal line and I arranged the flowers in a sort of a bouquet popping out from behind the photo. I have to say that the chain stitching around the layout took quite a while, but worth it!
